Contributions :

To contribute, you have to submit an abstract in English for:

  • A talk: 10 mins + 5 mins questions = 15 mins total

Suggested outline of the ten minutes presentation :
- General context of the work
- Introduction to field of study
- Key concepts
- The actual subject of the PhD thesis
- Results (OPTIONAL)

Dummy exemple:
Title : Neuroscience
- Cerebral mechanism behind the consciousness of the "now"
- While physics can give precise definition and measurement of time it cannot explain why the impression of time one is subject to vary depending on the activity performed...
- Some neuroscience theories proposed that the brain might encode time through neural oscillations which are... In my PhD work I'm trying to test such hypothesis using Magnetoencephalography (MEG) which is ...
- To do so, I'm building an experiment which measures neural responses to visual and acoustic stimuli...
- Results : none at the moment, the experiment as only be performed on few test subjects and...

  • A poster: A0 expected, smaller ones will be accepted as well

A time slot will be dedicated to present the different posters of the poster session. You must prepare a "flash" presentation to tease the audience about your poster in ~ 2 or 3 min. As you might be tempted to use an old conference poster, this flash presentation gives you the opportunity to put your poster in a more broadly understandable context adapted to the audience.

  • A 180": when the countdown reaches 180", your mic is turned off !

You are only allowed one slide, without animations whatsoever !

The main goal of the Doctoral School Day is to enable PhD students to show their work to fellow students from the SIMEM doctoral school.

Speakers should bear in mind that the public will be mainly composed of students from other fields of study and therefore adapted their speech to be broadly understandable. You will not address specialists of your specific topic, not even from your specific discipline (even if it is a scientific audience).

In addition, while English is not mandatory it is widely recommended as it allows non-French speakers to be fully part of the event.
